Wikipedia defines a new year’s resolution as:
“a commitment that a person makes to one or more personal goals, projects, or the reforming of a habit.“
We recommend you commit to these five marketing activities to boost your marketing and achieve your business goals in 2013:
How will you get your business where you want it to be if you don’t know how to get there?
The start of a new year is always a good time to either review and update your marketing plan or create one if you don’t have one already. A good marketing plan will prevent you wasting time, money and energy on inefficient marketing and keep you focused.
Regularly review the effectiveness of your marketing activity/expenditure to measure return on investment. Identify whether the marketing activity met its objectives; consider what the financial return was; and question whether time and/or money could be better spent invested elsewhere.
Adjust your marketing plan as necessary following each review.
We are huge fans of blogging! Read why here. If you don’t already have a blog for your business then start one. If you are blogging already then keep it going. Spend some time drawing up a schedule of blog topics and blog at least weekly.
4. Care for your customers
It is easy to focus on wining new customers and pay less attention to the ones you’ve already got. New customers are expensive to find so invest time in developing existing relationships. Show your existing customers a little love and they will be more likely to stay with you and even increase spend.
5. Keep it going
Marketing is most effective when it is enduring and long-term. Don’t wait until business is quiet to focus before you get round to marketing your business. It is a slow burn process and should be ongoing throughout the year. If your marketing budget is limited then little and often is more effective than a one-off ‘big bang’.
