How to improve your local ranking on Google

With more people using mobiles than desktop to search the internet, local search results are becoming increasingly more important. Most of the time we want to find businesses and places near our location so these are the results we want to see first. Local ranking on Google is key.

To maximise how often your business is shown to potential customers in local search results, you first need a Google My Business listing.

Improve your local ranking on Google: 3 Google My Business listing tips:

1. Enter full data on your business

Google returns results which it deems most relevant to the search. Businesses with complete and accurate information are easier to match with the right searches.

Make sure that you’ve entered all your business information in Google My Business. Include an accurate description of your business and select the right business category. Ensure that your address and other contact details are correct. Keep this information updated as and when it changes.

2. Add photos

Adding photos helps showcase your products and services. Photos can bring your business to life and make for a more interesting and engaging listing.

Include your opening hours

Listing your opening hours lets potential customers know when your services are available. This is essential for B2C businesses such as retail or hospitality.

3. Request reviews

Ask your customers to provide a review about your business. This provides valuable endorsement as well as increased visibility.

Customers can leave a review by going to Google Maps, typing your business name into the search back and clicking on the ‘WRITE A REVIEW’ tab. Make it easier for your customers to do this by creating a link and sending it to them.

Make sure you respond to reviews to show that you value your customers and their feedback.

There’s no way to request or pay for a better local ranking on Google so be sure to complete all the above to improve your ranking.
