The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) has confirmed that it is launching a GDPR helpline for micro and small businesses.
The GDPR stands for General Data Protection Regulation and is a major change to the current data protection regulations. It becomes enforceable from 25 May 2018 and is applicable to every organisation that holds personal data.
The update to the data protection rules has significant implications for marketers. It will fundamentally change the way businesses can market to its customers, collect and hold data, and communicate with its customers. Most significantly, customers will have to give explicit consent to receive marketing communications. See our previous blog for more information.
Most of the small businesses we talk to are still unaware of the changes and new requirements. Hopefully, the GDPR helpline will be a useful resource for those businesses that need to prepare for the change.
The ICO GDPR helpline will be available from 1 November 2017 and will be the same number as the existing helpline number: 0303 123 1113.
