Where is your target audience?

Where is your target audience

Driving to see a client last week I followed a bus that had an advert on the back with the following wording: "More people will see this ad than visit your social media networking site this week. Bus advertising works."

I don't know where they got their statistics from, but it does endorse what I often tell clients, don't assume that your business has to be on social media or your marketing will fail.

The question you need to ask yourself when determining where to advertise or invest your marketing budget is, "where is your target audience?".

If your target audience is not using social media then is there much point in investing your time and money there?

Knowing where your target audience is requires you to be clear about who your target audience is. Creating a buyer persona – a semi-fictional representation of your ideal customer will assist with this.

Armed with an understanding of your customer profile you can start to determine where they hang out, what they read, what interests they might have etc. and can plan your marketing activity accordingly.

Maybe you need to be on social media or maybe you'd be better off advertising on the back of a bus.

Personally, I think bus advertising is an underrated medium and can be an effective tool for raising awareness and spreading your message. Depending on your target audience of course!
