5 tips to improve your marketing

5 tips to improve your marketing

Improve your marketing to generate more leads for your business and increase your sales.

Here are five tips to improve your marketing results:

1. Make a plan

Preparing a marketing plan will force you to think about what you want you to achieve and how best to do it. Having a plan will give you something to work towards, keep you focused, and make you less likely to jump on shiny initiatives that come your way but are unlikely to help you achieve your objectives.

2. Know your target audience

Work out what your ideal customer looks like and take the time to understand them. Why waste time and money marketing to the wrong customers?

Only when you know your customer inside out can you tailor your marketing messages appropriately and place your marketing where they’ll be most receptive to it.

You might find this buyer persona template helpful.

3. Be consistent

Marketing takes time. Relationships don’t happen overnight (well generally not long-standing ones anyway!). You need to be in it for the long haul and stay consistent. If you decide a monthly newsletter is a good idea then stick to it. Demonstrate to your customers what they can expect from you by keeping up the commitment.

Also, be consistent with your brand. Everything externally facing must convey the same message. Branding inconsistency creates confusion. If your customers don’t know what they’re buying into, they won’t buy.

4. Focus on what works

There are many marketing tools available to your business. But that doesn’t mean you have to use all of them. When narrowing down your choices, only select the relevant marketing activities that you have the time and resource to implement.

It’s better to do one or two things well then lots of activities badly.

5. Review and monitor

Keep track of what marketing is working and what isn’t so you can tweak your plan. Remember that your marketing is unlikely to generate instant results, so reviewing your plan at six-monthly intervals would be a sensible time frame.
